Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.397:
एकेनैव प्रदीपेन सर्वे साधारणं धनम् ।
पश्यन्ति तद्वदेकेन सुपा संख्याऽभिधीयते ॥ ३९७ ॥ekenaiva pradīpena sarve sādhāraṇaṃ dhanam |
paśyanti tadvadekena supā saṃkhyā'bhidhīyate || 397 ||397. Just as everybody sees common property by means of the same lamp, in the same way, by means of one case-ending the number is understood.
Commentary
[The Vṛtti points out that the one case-ending added to the stem as a whole expresses the singular number and there is no need for another case-ending: Tathaikena supā prakāśitam ekatvaṃ sarvasambandhigate tasminnarthātmani pratīyamānaṃ na subantareṇābhidhīyate.]
