Verse 2.207
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.207:
सार्थकानर्थकौ मेदे सम्बन्धं नाधिगच्छतः ।
अधिगच्छत इत्येके कृटीरादिनिदर्शनात् ॥ २०७ ॥sārthakānarthakau mede sambandhaṃ nādhigacchataḥ |
adhigacchata ityeke kṛṭīrādinidarśanāt || 207 ||207. Some say that when a word is analysed (bhede) its two elements, one meaningful and the other meaningless, do not enter in to any relation with each other while others declare that they do, as there is the example of the word kuṭīra.
Commentary
[The word kuṭīra is analysed into two parts: kuṭī and ra. The former has a meaning while the latter has not. So they cannot be connected, according to some, while others think that ra suggests the idea of smallness and so the two can be joined.]
