Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.209:
केचित्तु युतासिद्धार्था भेदे निर्ज्ञातशक्तयः ।
अन्वयव्यतिरेकाभ्यां केचित् कल्पितशक्तयः ॥ २०९ ॥kecittu yutāsiddhārthā bhede nirjñātaśaktayaḥ |
anvayavyatirekābhyāṃ kecit kalpitaśaktayaḥ || 209 ||209. Some collections are made up of separately meaningful parts. When divided, each element is separately recognisable and meaningful. Some (on the other hand) have to have their denotative power inferred by means of agreement and difference.
Commentary
[Śamīvrkṣa and Dāḍimīvṛkṣa are examples of the first kind. Saṃjñu and Prajñu are examples of the second kind. Saṃjñu is explained as saṃgate jānunī asya = one whose knees are joined together. The word jānunī, though seen in the analysis, is not easily recognisable in the compound word. ]
