तथा मध्ये दीर्घ-नदी
यमुना प्रतिबन्धिका
कथं तत्-तरणं नवं
ऋते देव भविष्यति

tathā madhye dīrgha-nadī
yamunā pratibandhikā
kathaṃ tat-taraṇaṃ navaṃ
ṛte deva bhaviṣyati

tathā—so; madhye—in the middle; dīrgha-nadīthe great river; yamunāYamunā; pratibandhikā—an obstaclke; katham—how?; tat-taraṇam—crossing it; navam—a boat; ṛte—without; devaO Lord; bhaviṣyati—will be.

English translation of verse 4.1.20:

The great Yamunā river is a great obstacle. O Lord, how can we cross it without a boat?
