The Chaitanya Bhagavata 2.8.238, English translation, including a commentary (Gaudiya-bhasya). This text is similair to the Caitanya-caritamrita and narrates the pastimes of Lord Caitanya, proclaimed to be the direct incarnation of Krishna (as Bhagavan) This is verse 238 of Madhya-khanda chapter 8—“The Manifestation of Opulences”.

Bengali text, Devanagari and Unicode transliteration of verse 2.8.238:

কেহ বলে,—“হেন বুঝি পূর্বের সংস্কার” কেহ বলে,—“সঙ্গ-দোষ হৈল তাহার ॥ ২৩৮ ॥

केह बले,—“हेन बुझि पूर्वेर संस्कार” केह बले,—“सङ्ग-दोष हैल ताहार ॥ २३८ ॥

keha bale,—“hena bujhi pūrvera saṃskāra” keha bale,—“saṅga-doṣa haila tāhāra || 238 ||

keha bale,—“hena bujhi purvera samskara” keha bale,—“sanga-dosa haila tahara (238)

English translation:

(238) Someone said, “I think this is due to His previous activities.” Someone else said, “This is due to bad association.”

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

Someone said, “Since Nimāi Paṇḍita has been affected by bad association, He has closed the door in order to engage in sinful activities hidden from the view of ordinary people.”
