Verse 2.8.233-234

যতেক পাষণ্ডী-সব না পাইযা দ্বার বাহিরে থাকিযা মন্দ বলযে অপার কেহ বলে,—“এ-গুলা-সকল মাগি’ খায চিনিলে পাইবে লাজ দ্বার না ঘুচায” ॥ ২৩৩-২৩৪ ॥

यतेक पाषण्डी-सब ना पाइया द्वार बाहिरे थाकिया मन्द बलये अपार केह बले,—“ए-गुला-सकल मागि’ खाय चिनिले पाइबे लाज द्वार ना घुचाय” ॥ २३३-२३४ ॥

yateka pāṣaṇḍī-saba nā pāiyā dvāra bāhire thākiyā manda balaye apāra keha bale,—“e-gulā-sakala māgi’ khāya cinile pāibe lāja dvāra nā ghucāya” || 233-234 ||

yateka pasandi-saba na paiya dvara bahire thakiya manda balaye apara keha bale,—“e-gula-sakala magi’ khaya cinile paibe laja dvara na ghucaya” (233-234)

English translation:

(233-234) The materialists, being unable to enter the house, spoke harsh words outside. Someone said, “These fellows beg to fill their bellies. They are ashamed of being recognized, so they do not open the door.”

Commentary: Gauḍīya-bhāṣya by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:

Those who could not enter the courtyard of Śrīvāsa began to speak various harsh words: “Those who have entered the house maintain their livelihood by begging. They close the door because they are ashamed of showing their miserable condition to others. If this were not the case, then why do those inside the house cry out loudly, being afflicted by

hunger?”
