Salak (सालक) in Nepali refers to the animal Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata, “Indian pangolin” or Manis pentadactyla, “Chinese pangolin” both from the Manis genus and Manidae family). It is is mentioned as one of the “Protected animals of Nepal”.

The word Salak can also be transliterated as Sālak, Sālaka or Salaka.
