Sans (सांस) in Nepali refers to the animal Gangetic Dolphin (Platanista gangetica or “South Asian river dolphin”, from the Platanista genus and Platanistidae family). It is is mentioned as one of the “Protected animals of Nepal”.

The word Sans can also be transliterated as Sas, Sams, Samsa, Sansa, Sasa, Sāṃs, Sāns, Sās, Sāṃsa, Sānsa or Sāsa.
