Varuṇapporuttam (வருணப்பொருத்தம்) [varuṇa-poruttam] noun < idem. +. (poetics) Rule of propriety which enjoins that the first word of a poem should contain letters pertaining to the caste of the hero (the vowels and ka, ṅa, ca, ña, ṭa, ṇa, being Brāhman, ta, na, pa, ma, ya, ra being Kṣattriya, la, va, ṟa, ṉa being Vaiśya, ḻa, ḷa being Śūdra), one of ten ceyyuṇ-mutaṉ-moḻi-p-poruttam, q.v.; பன்னீருயிரும் க ங ச ஞ ட ண என்ற மெய்யாறும் பார்ப்பனச்சாதியும், த ந ப ம ய ர என்ற ஆறும் மன்னர்சாதியும், ல வ ற ன என்ற நான்கும் வணிகர்சாதியும், ழ ள இரண்டும் சூதசங்கிதை்திரசாதியுமாகக் கொண்டு உரியவாறு செய்யுண் முதன்மொழிப் பொருத்தங் கொள்ளுமுறை.
