varttaṇēṃ (वर्त्तणें).—v i (varttana S) To behave; to conduct one's self. Ex. putra varttē pitṛ ājñēnēṃ || āṇi strī pativratā saguṇa || hēṃ pūrva tapācēṃ phaḷa jāṇa || yēta disōna āpaisēṃ ||. 2 To be, to subsist, to exist (in, at, on). 3 To be in force; to prevail; to be under observance--a custom, a rite. 4 Esp. in poetry. To happen, take place, come to pass. Ex. vaṭavṛkṣākhālīṃ varttalēṃ tēṃ sāṅgēna; also ēkaci varttalā ākānta || nāhīṃ mīti mahāśabdā ||.
