Nirargaḍa (निरर्गड).—(1) adj. (= Sanskrit °la, Pali niraggaḷa), unimpeded, used as epithet of sacrifices in Sanskrit (among other ways), and so here apparently: yajñā nirargaḍa Lalitavistara 341.5 (verse); °ḍa-sarva-yajña- 432.17 (prose); °ḍa-yajñāḥ Mahāvyutpatti 2867 (but here could have meaning 2); (2) subst. m., name of a specific brahmanical sacrifice (also Pali, e.g. Sn 303; defined in commentary i.322.4 ff. as a specially elaborate and ‘unrestrained’ form of the aśvamedha; Pali Dictt. need correction on this), in lists of brahmanical sacrifices (as also in Pali Sn 303); (mahāyajñāni ca yajāhi aśvamedhaṃ puruṣame- dhaṃ) śamyāprāsaṃ (q.v., so read for text somaprāsaṃ) nirargaḍaṃ padumaṃ puṇḍarīkaṃ ca Mahāvastu ii.237.20 (prose); aśvamedhaṃ puruṣamedhaṃ puṇḍarīkaṃ nirargaḍaṃ 405.11 (verse); (aśvamedhaṃ) puruṣamedhaṃ śamyāprāsaṃ (so read) nirargaḍaṃ Divyāvadāna 634.7, similarly 11, 18 (°ḍo, n. sg.), 21; not in a list, but app. in this same meaning, yajño mayeṣṭas…nirargaḍaḥ pūrvabhave 'navadyaḥ Lalitavistara 318.8 (verse), I sacrificed a perfect nir° sacrifice in a previous birth. Above, in prose, the word nirgaḍa (2), q.v., is used instead.
