1. Prattling, babbling, lisping of children; குழந்தைகளின் திருந்தாச் சொல். தம்மக்கண் மழலைச்சொற் கேளாத வர் [kuzhanthaigalin thirunthas sol. thammakkan mazhalaichor kelatha var] (திருக்குறள் [thirukkural], 66).
2. Gentle speech, as of women; மென்மொழி. மழலைவா யின்முறுவற் றையலாள் [menmozhi. mazhalaiva yinmuruvar raiyalal] (சீவகசிந்தாமணி [sivagasindamani] 181).
3. Childhood, tenderness in age; இளமை. பெருமழலை வெளேற்றினர் [ilamai. perumazhalai velerrinar] (தேவாரம் [thevaram] 579, 5).
