jhōmbaṇēṃ (झोंबणें).—sometimes jhōmaṇēṃ v c (It agrees with the subject.) To affect with a smart or pungent pain, lit. fig.: to affect sorely; to touch to the quick; to cut, sting, bite, prick--flame, prickles, taunts, reproof &c. Ex. tōṃ ēkāēkīṃ agni dhaḍakalā || dāhi mukhīṃ jhōmbati jvāḷā ||. 2 To bite--a snake. Ex. hā sarpa dārūṇa || jivhāgrīṃ jhōmbalā ||: also to cause a smarting through injecting its sting--a scorpion &c. 3 To seize hold of violently or roughly; to grasp or clasp rudely: also to brush against forcibly.
