bhērūḍa (भेरूड).—n m An insect that attacks trees and fruits. The tree undergoes puffing here and there; the bark scales off; and the tree withers. v lāga. Applied also to the disease occasioned by this insect, and, by many, to the parasite which often grows out of the puffed parts. 2 fig. A wasting and lingering malady (incidental to man and beast). Applied also to sickliness or valetudinarianism. bhē0 or rōgācēṃ bhē0 lāgalēṃ daulatīlā, aiśvaryālā, sampattī- lā &c.)
