Atanubukka (अतनुबुक्क) is a historical name mentioned in the Vividhatīrthakalpa by Jinaprabhasūri (13th century A.D.): an ancient text devoted to various Jaina holy places (tīrthas).—Accordingly, “During Bhīmadeva’s reign, the sallāra Atanubukka, who came from the land of the Turukka (Turukka-maṇḍalāo=maṇḍala), sacked Aṇahillapaṭṭana”.

Atanubukka perhaps covers the Turkish word Ata "father", title before the Sanskritized name (ubukka) of the Turkish Ibak, name of a dynasty whose most famous representative is Quṭb-ad-dīn Aibak. It may be, too, suggests Herr Prof. Dr. Grotzfeld (Institut für Arabistik und Islamwissenschaft, Münster), the Sanskritization of the Turkish word atabek, title of the chief steward of the palace (cf. Encyclopedia of Islam, sv)
