Asvādhyāya (अस्वाध्याय).—[na svādhyāyo vedādhyayanamasya]

1) One who has not yet commenced his studies, not being invested with the sacred thread.

2) Interruption of studies (as on aṣṭamī, eclipses &.c.)

Asvādhyāya (अस्वाध्याय).—m.

(-yaḥ) 1. A Brahman who has not made his studies, who has not read the Vedas previous to his investiture. 2. Interruption or interval of study, prohibited on certain days of the moon, at eclipses, &c. E. a neg. sva own, and adhyāya a lecture.
