Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationAmaranuti (अमरनुति) refers to the “eulogy of the gods”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.16 (“Brahmā consoles the gods”).—Accordingly, as Brahmā narrate to Nārada: “The gods terribly tormented by Tāraka, bowed to and eulogised me, the lord of subjects with great devotion. On hearing the eulogy of the gods [i.e., śrutvā-amaranuti] pleasing and true to facts I was highly pleased and replied to the heaven-dwellers thus:—[...]”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
