Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationAkāṇḍapralaya (अकाण्डप्रलय) refers to a “sudden dissolution”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.2.35. Accordingly, as Viṣṇu said to Dakṣa:—“[...] even if he is worshipped and honoured by us with respect, Vīrabhadra will not protect us since he is extremely angry. A sudden dissolution [viz., akāṇḍapralaya] of every one of us is imminent. Alas, it has already set upon us”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
