Brotherly Love of a Mosquito

Y. V. Ratna

We do not know your whereabouts during the daytime, my dear mosquito brother.
Like a perfect Englishman you will maintain your timings.
You are so friendly and lovely that even after we shut our doors and windows,
You will not leave off visiting us in the evenings.
Like a night watchman you always alert us with your lovely pinching.
We hit you when you suck our blood and irritate us,
Even then you will not give up your endeavors.
To prove the blood relation between us sometimes you even lose your life.
In return what we humans do?
We do not even mourn your death and do not understand your sacrifices.
We make you frightened and run away by lighting coils and mats.
By frequent doses of “Malaria and filaria” you exhibit your integration and
to do research more and more upon you, our scientists are very busy running after you.
It is rather pity that they could know only about your organs but not your tiny
affectionate heart which is filled with brotherly love.
You hover around us with enthusiasm to make us listen melodious rhythmical music
which we consider it to be noise and miss the pouring of your seductive melody.
Yet, you have lot of patience and your incessant trials to maintain blood relationship
with all living beings, make you stand as an epitome of brotherly love to all of us who
are still at the beginner’s state.
