The Leader’s Greatness

P. K. Joy

I bow to your soul with deep reverence
For, you showed me what’s leader’s greatness.
With grace you opted for death for you
While saving all others. Proved your captaincy true.

When it became clear that the ship would sink
And the passengers and crew were pushed to death’s brink
You rescued all the passengers and the rest of the crew
And your own life’s safety, to the wind you threw.

The last piece of lifebelt by force you gave me
And with ship with joy you sank into the sea.
You showed sincere concern for my young child and wife
And insisted it’s too early for me to end the life.

With aching heart I heard your last noble voice
“Thank you God for the wisdom you gave to make this choice.
I commend my wife and children into thy care.
Faithful Lord you wouldn’t forsake them, I am pretty sure”.

The last sight was your waving hand, drowning in the water.
Unwaveringly you walked into the death’s belly with valor.
The creator must be proud of you. His blessings He’ll shower
On your children, wife, and others, in abundant measure forever.

Your rapid acts to send the people out from the ship,
Your concern like a shepherd’s to rescue frightened sheep,
Your valiant look, and waving hand sinking in the sea
These visions keep rolling . Nothing else I see.

I wish I had sunk instead and you continued      to live
Thousands would have surely got the benefit of your love.
In this part of the world where the corrupt and selfish thrive
To find a leader of your greatness, truly one has to strive.

May God send you in all rebirths as a leader here
Vested with the power to dispense God’s love and care
To all those in your charge, for the like of you are rare.
The Lord will grant my prayer and lessen His own burden I’m sure.
