In Imitation of Tagore

Dr. R. Janardana Rao

This is my prayer to Thee! My Lord!
leave this not as a mere prayer
Let these words remain not as words
But crystalised acts fine in Thy name
Give me the strength to fight the cruel men
That harass the innocent hapless lot
Endow me with power to dare the mafia
Forcing defenceless women into flesh trade
Furnish me with powerful machinery
To stand in defence of children tortured
Stand me four square against the arrogant
That smile before the weak and the exploited
Give me the strength and courage to defy
The might that claws the poor and weak
Make me not look aside as coward
As self-seeker while the mighty club the meek
Make me not humble docile as evasive man
But a soul single enough to dare and defend
Make me Lord full and powerful
To defend the meek and the innocent.
