Community Architectures (Introduction)

The vernacular architecture and housing culture of the state invariably possess some indispensible community architecture. The community architecture are commonly possessed, managed, and maintained by a community as whole. Thus, every village in normal case possess one or other variety of community architecture. They are established in a central, convenient, or tradition prescribed position. In the non-tribal and Hindu villages, the Namghar is the most common and indispensible community architecture. Similarly, the tribal villages traditionally possess the community architectures of youth dormitory (Deka-chang). However, the tribal villages occasionally possess some sacred structure also. Such structures are usually of makeshift nature, but may appear in permanent form also.
