Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.14.335:
गुणभावोऽभिधेयत्वं प्रति द्रव्यस्य नाश्रितः ।
उपकारी गुणः शेषः पदार्थ इति कल्पना ॥ ३३५ ॥guṇabhāvo'bhidheyatvaṃ prati dravyasya nāśritaḥ |
upakārī guṇaḥ śeṣaḥ padārtha iti kalpanā || 335 ||335. Substance is not thought of as the secondary expressed meaning. But it is useful (to the universal) and, therefore, secondary. Such is the interpretation.
Commentary
[To the upholder of the universal, that is the expressed primary meaning of the word. Though substance is not the expressed meaning, it renders service to the universal and so is subordinate to it. It is as in the world where what serves another is considered to be secondary and subordinate to it.]
