Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.14.288:
अशुक्ल इति कृष्णादिर्यथार्थः सम्प्रतीयते ।
सङ्ख्यान्तरं तथानेक इत्यत्राप्यभिधीयते ॥ २८८ ॥aśukla iti kṛṣṇādiryathārthaḥ sampratīyate |
saṅkhyāntaraṃ tathāneka ityatrāpyabhidhīyate || 288 ||288. Just as from the word aśukla black or some other colour is understood, in the same way, from aneka, other numbers are understood.
Commentary
[The negation in aneka can be understood either as prasajya-pratiṣedha or as paryudāsa. The former would be simple negation amounting to ‘not one’. So the latter is resorted to so that the other numbers may be understood.]
