Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.9.95:
तदर्थश्चेदवयवो भाविनो भूततागतिः ।
न स्यादत्यन्तभूतत्वमेवैकं तत्र सम्भवेत् ॥ ९५ ॥tadarthaścedavayavo bhāvino bhūtatāgatiḥ |
na syādatyantabhūtatvamevaikaṃ tatra sambhavet || 95 ||95. The idea that which was future is no longer so would not be understood if (according to the sūtra) the suffix in bhāvī expresses the same point of time as in āsīt. Only the absolute past would be understood.
Commentary
[On account of this sūtra, bhāvī also would express the past. The idea that what was future is no longer so would not be conveyed. That is conveyed only through the relation of qualifier and qualified, coming out of the sentence.]
