Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.335:
स्वार्थमात्र प्रकाश्यासौ साकाङ्क्षो विनिवर्तते ।
अर्थस्तु तस्य सम्बन्धी प्रकाशयति सन्निधिम् ॥ ३३५ ॥svārthamātra prakāśyāsau sākāṅkṣo vinivartate |
arthastu tasya sambandhī prakāśayati sannidhim || 335 ||335. Therefore, when a sentence consists of a single word (whether that word is a noun or a verb) it does no more than express its own meaning and retires incomplete. Its meaning suggests the proximity (of the other meaning required for completeness through the medium of the word to which the meaning belongs.)
Commentary
[In this way, śrutārthāpatti is justified by the Mīmāṃsaka.
The upholder of indivisibility now criticizes the Mīmāṃsaka.
