Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.143:
विच्छेदग्रहणेऽर्थानां प्रतिभाऽन्यैव जायते ।
वाक्यार्थ इति तामाहुः पदार्थैरुपपादिताम् ॥ १४३ ॥vicchedagrahaṇe'rthānāṃ pratibhā'nyaiva jāyate |
vākyārtha iti tāmāhuḥ padārthairupapāditām || 143 ||143. When the meanings (of the individual words) have been understood separately, a flash of understanding takes place which they call the meaning of the sentence, brought about by the meanings of the individual words.

The author now continues his statement on pratibhā.

[Even though the meanings of the individual words are not real or rather have only a practical reality, they serve the purpose of bringing the sentence-meaning to the mind. They are the manifesters of the sentence-meaning.]
