एतद् वः सारफल्गुत्वं बीजयोन्योः प्रकीर्तितम् ।
अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि योषितां धर्ममापदि ॥ ५६ ॥etad vaḥ sāraphalgutvaṃ bījayonyoḥ prakīrtitam |
ataḥ paraṃ pravakṣyāmi yoṣitāṃ dharmamāpadi || 56 ||Thus has been explained to you the comparative importance and non-importance of the seed and the womb; after this i am going to expound the duties of women during times of distress.—(56)
Medhātithi’s commentary (manubhāṣya):
‘Importance’—predominance.
‘Non-importance’—non-predominance.
This verse sums up the foregoing section, and its second half introduces the next section.
‘Distress’—i.e., (1) want of food and clothing necessary for the sustaining of life; and also (2) absence of progeny.—(56)
