1. To dry, as grain, vegetables or fish; உலர்தல். தினைவிளைத்தார் முற்றந் தினையுணங்கும் [ularthal. thinaivilaithar murran thinaiyunangum] (தமிழ்நாவலர் சரிதை [thamizhnavalar sarithai] 154).
2. To become gaunt, as the body by fasting; to be emaciated; to become reduced; மெலிதல். ஊடலுணங்க விடுவா ரோடு [melithal. udalunanga viduva rodu] (திருக்குறள் [thirukkural], 1310).
3. To be dejected in mind; to languish; சிந்தை வாடுதல். உணங்கிய சிந்தையீர் [sinthai vaduthal. unangiya sinthaiyir] (கந்தபு. மோன. [kanthapu. mona.] 21).
