Ucchvāsaniśvāsa (उच्छ्वासनिश्वास) refers to the “inhalation and exhalation”, according to the Amanaska Yoga treatise dealing with meditation, absorption, yogic powers and liberation.—Accordingly, as Īśvara says to Vāmadeva: “[...] The knower of yoga whose inhalation and exhalation (ucchvāsaniśvāsa) have disappeared, whose grasping of [sense] objects has ceased, and who is motionless and free from [any] undertaking, attains bliss. [This] extraordinary absorption by which all volition has been cut off and in which all movement has ceased, is intelligible [only] to oneself and is beyond the scope of words. [...]”.
