pāṭhanaḷa (पाठनळ).—m pl Rigidity and dull pain of the lumbar muscles, arising from constrained postures, abdominal distension &c. pāṭhanaḷa are supposed to be two tubular columns, one on each side of the spine, and to correspond with pōṭanaḷa in front.
