Naṃgaru (ನಂಗರು):—

1) [noun] a heavy object, usu. a shaped iron weight with flukes, lowered by cable or chain to the bottom of a body of water to keep a ship or boat from drifting; an anchor2) [noun] ನಂಗರು ಎತ್ತು [namgaru ettu] nangaru ettu to take out the anchor as to move the ship; to start a ship; ನಂಗರು ಬಿಡು [namgaru bidu] nangaru biḍu to lower the anchor overboard so as to keep from drifting; to station a ship; ನಂಗರುವಾಡೆ [namgaruvade] naṃgaruvāḍe a protected inlet or branch of a sea, lake, etc., where ships can anchor, with port facilities; a harbour; ನಂಗರುಹಾಕು [namgaruhaku] nangaru hāku = ನಂಗರು ಬಿಡು [namgaru bidu].
