Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationMātṛpadāmbuja (मातृपदाम्बुज) refers to the “lotus-like feet of one’s mother”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.4.16 (“The head of Gaṇeśa is chopped off”).—Accordingly, as Brahmā narrated to Nārada: “[...] Seeing his face on a side, the infuriated Śiva took up his trident with a desire to fight and came there. Pārvatī’s son of great strength and heroism, saw Śiva arrived there with desire to fight him to a finish, the great lord with the trident in his hand. Gaṇeśa, the great hero, who had been rendered more powerful by Pārvatī and the Śaktis remembered the lotuslike feet of his mother (mātṛpadāmbuja) and struck him in his hand with his Śakti. [...]”.
