khacāṭaṇēṃ (खचाटणें).—v c (From the sound khaca! khaca! in cutting grass, or the sound uttered by a person under violent exertion.) To cut up or cut roughly and impetuously, to slash. 2 Hence To drag or pull; to seize or catch; to bind or tie; to exclaim or utter; to perform or do generally with rude violence or vehemence. The word is used with great latitude; and in the form khacāṭūna precedes several verbs, enhancing or giving emphasis to their signification: e. g. v khacāṭūna-ōḍha-bāndha- avaḷa-tāna-khēca-jhāḍa-māpa bharaṇēṃ-khā-jēva-bhara. It conveys an impression of ardor, smartness, impetuousness, energetic determination. It corresponds, both in nature and in extent of application, with the verbs kacakāviṇēṃ, ragaḍaṇēṃ, rapāṭaṇēṃ, dapaṭaṇēṃ and numerous others of this lively language; and thus, as under the first of these mentioned, and under its form kacakāvūna, minute explication and particular examples are given, to them the thorough-going student must be referred.
