Halsvaraprāpti (हल्स्वरप्राप्ति).—A possibility of the application of an accent to the consonant by the literal interpretation of rules prescribing an accent for the first or the last letter of a word, to prevent which a ruling is laid down that a consonant is not to be accented; cf. हल्स्वरप्राप्तौ व्यञ्जनमविद्यमानवत् (halsvaraprāptau vyañjanamavidyamānavat) Par. Sek. Pari. 80.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
