Source: archive.org: Ceylon Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society 1963Geṭṭhumba is the name of an ancient canal that existed in the Polonnaruva (Polonnaruwa) district of Ceylon (Sri Lanka).—The construction of Gaṭupvava is ascribed to Mahāsena (275-301). In an inscription of Parakkamabāhu I (1153-1186) at Ānaolandāva tank, 2½ miles north of Polonnaruva, the length of the tank bund is givenas 1135 riyan. The Sīgiri Graffiti mention Gaḍubavana. The Geṭṭhumba canal was assigned by Mahinda III (801-804) to Abhayagiri-vihāra at Anurādhapura.
