Geṭṭhumba is the name of an ancient canal that existed in the Polonnaruva (Polonnaruwa) district of Ceylon (Sri Lanka).—The construction of Gaṭupvava is ascribed to Mahāsena (275-301). In an inscription of Parakkamabāhu I (1153-1186) at Ānaolandāva tank, 2½ miles north of Polonnaruva, the length of the tank bund is givenas 1135 riyan. The Sīgiri Graffiti mention Gaḍubavana. The Geṭṭhumba canal was assigned by Mahinda III (801-804) to Abhayagiri-vihāra at Anurādhapura.
