Kd.1.44.1 BD.4.95 Now at that time a certain man who had been scourged as punishment[1] came to have gone forth among the monks. People … spread it about, saying: “How can these recluses, sons of the Sakyans, let one who has been scourged as punish-ment go forth?” They told this matter to the Lord. He said:

Monks, one who has been scourged as punishment should not be let go forth. Whoever should let (one such) go forth, there is an offence of wrong-doing.Vin.1.76
