श्री-नारद उवाच
उपहास्यं गता देवा
इत्थं तूष्णीं स्थिताः पुनः
चकितान् इव तान् दृष्ट्वा
विष्णुर् वचनम् अब्रवीत्
śrī-nārada uvāca
upahāsyaṃ gatā devā
itthaṃ tūṣṇīṃ sthitāḥ punaḥ
cakitān iva tān dṛṣṭvā
viṣṇur vacanam abravīt
śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; upahāsyam—the object of jokes; gatāḥ—attained; devāḥ—the demigods; ittham—thus; tūṣṇīm—silent; sthitāḥ—stood; punaḥ—again; cakitān—frightened; iva—as if; tān—them; dṛṣṭvā—seeing; viṣṇuḥ—Lord Viṣṇu; vacanam—words; abravīt—said.
English translation of verse 1.2.29:
Śrī Nārada said: Mocked in this way, the demigods were silent. Seeing them intimidated, Lord Viṣṇu spoke some words.
