The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.3.68; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. प्रायो धूमायिता एव रुक्षास् तिष्ठन्ति सात्त्विकाः ।
स्निग्धास् तु प्रायशः सर्वे चतुर्धैव भवन्त्य् अमी ॥२.३.६८॥prāyo dhūmāyitā eva rukṣās tiṣṭhanti sāttvikāḥ |
snigdhās tu prāyaśaḥ sarve caturdhaiva bhavanty amī ||2.3.68||
English translation
“All the sāttvika-bhāvas in the rukṣa state (in persons without real rati) remain generally at the dhūmāyita level. The sāttvika-bhāvas in the snigdha state appear in all four levels: dhūmāita (smoky), jvalita (luminous), dīpta (brilliant) and uddīpta (very brilliant).”
