The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.3.68; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

प्रायो धूमायिता एव रुक्षास् तिष्ठन्ति सात्त्विकाः ।
स्निग्धास् तु प्रायशः सर्वे चतुर्धैव भवन्त्य् अमी ॥२.३.६८॥

prāyo dhūmāyitā eva rukṣās tiṣṭhanti sāttvikāḥ |
snigdhās tu prāyaśaḥ sarve caturdhaiva bhavanty amī ||2.3.68||

English translation

“All the sāttvika-bhāvas in the rukṣa state (in persons without real rati) remain generally at the dhūmāyita level. The sāttvika-bhāvas in the snigdha state appear in all four levels: dhūmāita (smoky), jvalita (luminous), dīpta (brilliant) and uddīpta (very brilliant).”
