Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. नानुयोगा ब्राह्मणानां भवन्ति वाचा राजन्मनसा कर्मणा वा ।
यस्त्वेवं ब्रह्म तपसान्वेति विद्वांस्तेन श्रेष्ठो भवति हि जीवमानः ॥ ६६ ॥
