Seven Oceans:—A technical term in Buddhism corresponding to the Sanskrit sāgara defined in the Dharma-saṃgraha (section 126):

  1. Salty (kṣāra),
  2. Milky (kṣīra),
  3. Coagulated (dadhi),
  4. Watery (udadhi),
  5. Buttery (ghṛta),
  6. Sweet (madhu),
  7. Spirituous (surā).

The Dharma-samgraha (Dharmasangraha) is an extensive glossary of Buddhist technical terms in Sanskrit (e.g., ‘seven oceans’). The work is attributed to Nagarguna who lived around the 2nd century A.D.
