Seven Lower Regions:—A technical term in Buddhism corresponding to the Sanskrit saṃskāra defined in the Dharma-saṃgraha (section 123):

  1. The plains of the earth (dharaṇitala),
  2. The mountain (acala),
  3. The great mountain (mahācala),
  4. The water realm (āpa),
  5. The golden realm (kāñcana),
  6. The reviving hell (sañjīva),
  7. Hell (naraka).

The Dharma-samgraha (Dharmasangraha) is an extensive glossary of Buddhist technical terms in Sanskrit (e.g., ‘seven lower regions’). The work is attributed to Nagarguna who lived around the 2nd century A.D.
