This impurity, caused by birth and death, is mentioned in the Markandeyapurana, as sutaka. In the Smritisha stras the word sutaka is said to be of three type viz. birth sutaka , both birth and death sutaka, death sutaka This purana determines the periods of the death impurities to be ten days, twelve days, fifteen days and one month for Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras respectively....
