Since Vacaspati Mishra quotes and names the work Nyayamanjari, he cannot precede Jayanta Bhatta, thus the date must be Shaka 898 i.e., C.E 976. This argument is shaky, since it seems clear that in the Nyayamanjari Vacaspati Mishra quotes not Jayanta s but his teacher Trilocana s work. Dineshchandrabhattacharya [=Dinesh Chandra Bhattacharya] [Dineshcandra-bhatta-acarya] gives some additional arguments, the cumulative weight of which would seem to settle the question....
