Story of Ashtavasu. Origin.Ganadevatas are called Ashtavasus. They were born to Dharmadeva of his wife Vasu, daughter of Daksha. They are: Dhara, Dhruva, Soma, Ahar, Anila, Anala, Pratyusha and Prabhasa. (Shlokas 17 and 18, Chapter 66, Adi Parva, Mahabharata). There is a version in certain puranas that the Ashtavasus are the sons of Kashyapa.Different puranas give different names to these Ashtavasus.
