At the global level, nearly a 40 million people will die every year at the premature stage of 30-59 years. This is mainly because of noncommunicable diseases. India is home to 77 million diabetics second only to China and has become a leading cause of death at the premature stage. Many countries have shown that along with urbanization and economic growth, nutrition transition is the main factor that has led to the development of these noncommunicable diseases. As this risk factor is modifiable, replacing these faulty food habits with a healthy diet is the only way to battle this global epidemic.
