Bhagandara is one of the common diseases occurring in anorectal region. Bhagandara(Fistula in ano) explained as one among the eight (Vātavyādhī, Pṛameha, Kuṣṭha, Arśa, Bhagandara, Aśamarī, Mūdha Garbha and Udara Roga ). Majordreadfull disease in ayurvedic texts. Inancient Ayurvedic literature, the description of Bhagandara is found in different Samhitas but it is scattered in various Sthāna as Nidāna, Cikītsā etc so In this review an attempts has been made tohighlight the concepts of Bhagandara in ancient time according to different Ācharyas ofĀyurveda collectively in different heading given below, historical review, etymology and definition, aetiology (Nidan) of Bhagandara, pathogenesis (Samprapti) Purvarūpa, Rūpa, classificationand management of Bhagandara. There are a few drawbacks that the human race carries with themselves from their ancestors and to their progeny, even though they live at the higher most places in the taxonomy. Apart from this a great quality we have is to take things granted, which we were not used to earlier and those that should claim in depth attention. One such irregularity of mankind is the disease of Anorectal region. Current surgical parlance has made enormous progress in branches like neurosurgery and microscopic surgeries. Also biomedical engineering has advanced in diagnostic and management techniques. But certain diseases seem to mock the progress achieved.
