This is an English study of the Tilakamanjari of Dhanapala, a Sanskrit poem written in the 11th century. Technically, the Tilaka-manjari is classified as a Gadyakavya (“prose-romance”). The author, Dhanapala was a court poet to the Paramara king Munja, who ruled the Kingdom of Malwa in ancient west-central India.

3. This verse is ascribed to some "Dhanapati" by Śrīdhara.
But it is really Dhanapāla's, as it occurs in the TM as
the introductory verse No. 46 with the variant readings
"ya" in a, "prasyandi - timyat-putāh" in b, and "muhur-
muhur" in d. The same has been quoted by Jahlana, cf.
SMV. 1xxxxvii, 60.
4. cf. TM(N). Intro. vs. 26.
