This page describes Incarnation of Vindhyashakti as Taraka which is the twelfth part of chapter II of the English translation of the Vasupujya-caritra, contained within the “Trishashti Shalaka Purusha Caritra”: a massive Jain narrative relgious text composed by Hemacandra in the 12th century. Vasupujya in jainism is one of the 63 illustrious beings or worthy persons.

Part 12: Incarnation of Vindhyaśakti as Tāraka

Vindhyaśakti wandered in existence for a long time, adopted Jain garb in one birth, died, and became a kalpa-god.[1] When he fell, he was born the son, Śrīmant Tāraka, of King Śrīdhara by his wife Śrīmatī in Vijayapura. Seventy bows tall, his figure black as collyrium, with a life-term of seventy-two lacs of years, he had unlimited strength of arm. At the death of his father, he obtained the cakra and conquered half of Bharata. For the Prativiṣṇus are masters of half of Bharata.
