This page describes the minimum duration of the feeling-producing karma (vedaniya) which is verse 8.18 of the English translation of the Tattvartha Sutra which represents the essentials of Jainism and Jain dharma and deals with the basics on Karma, Cosmology, Ethics, Celestial beings and Liberation. The Tattvarthasutra is authorative among both Digambara and Shvetambara. This is verse 18 of the chapter Bondage of Karmas and includes an extensive commentary.
Verse 8.18 - The minimum duration of the feeling-producing karma (vedanīya)

अपरा द्वादशमुहूर्ता वेदनीयस्य ॥ ८.१८ ॥
aparā dvādaśamuhūrtā vedanīyasya || 8.18 ||
The minimum duration–jaghanya sthiti–of the feeling-producing (vedanīya) karma is twelve muhūrta. (18)
Hindi Anvayarth:
अन्वयार्थ: [वेदनीयस्य अपरा] वेदनीय कर्म की जघन्य स्थिति [द्वादशमुहूर्ता] बारह मुहूर्त की है।
Anvayartha: [vedaniyasya apara] vedaniya karma ki jaghanya sthiti [dvadashamuhurta] baraha muhurta ki hai |
Explanation in English from Ācārya Pūjyapāda’s Sarvārthasiddhi:
The maximum duration–utkṛṣṭa sthiti–has been described. Now the minimum duration–jaghanya sthiti–has to be described. Leaving (for the present) the five types of karmas, which have the same minimum duration, the author describes the minimum duration of the other three types of karmas in two sūtra.
The word ‘aparā’ means the minimum. The minimum duration of the feeling-producing (vedanīya) karma is twelve muhūrta.
